The MathWorks Software Installation Types

The MathWorks provides three installation types: Stand-alone Named User, Network Named User, and Network Concurrent User. In general, the network-based installation types provide the greatest control and asset mobility, which is the ability to transfer product licenses to other users.

Stand-alone Named User

This installation type is for individual computers and does not use a network. Because this is a Named User option, the right-to-use is assigned by your organization to a specific person. The designated Named User may install and use the software on multiple machines as long as the licensed Named User is the only person who accesses and uses the software on each machine.

Network Named User

This installation type resembles the first, but operates over a network. You install the software in a central location on your network and maintain a list of Named Users who are authorized to operate the software. This option has the advantage of easier central management of the software, and runs the FLEXnet license manager in User-Based mode.

Network Concurrent User

This license installation type tracks the number of simultaneous users. If the number of simultaneous users exceeds the number of purchased keys, anyone who subsequently tries to start the software is denied access. This option uses the FLEXnet license manager in Floating
License mode.

1) Individual License Option

This option is the standard license for a single software package for stand-alone installations. Select this license if you are an end user and want to operate, install, and administer the software.

How It Works

•  Select Windows, UNIX, Linux, or Macintosh.

•  Users in the ASEAN countries will require a dongle to run the software program.

• You are the Named User on this license, and you have the right to install the software on multiple machines with access restricted to the Named User only.

• MathWorks Software Maintenance Service (SMS) provides ongoing technical support and automatic software updates. The first year of SMS is included at no charge. In subsequent years, you have the option to purchase an annual subscription to SMS.

• You are the Primary Contact for this license. This means that software updates and SMS renewal bills are sent to you as the administrator of the license.

2) Network Named User License Option (For Commercial Use Only)

Network Named User is a new license option introduced in February 2007. Select this option if you want to administer Named User licensing in a network-only configuration using the FLEXnet lincense manager.

How it works

• You specify the Licensed User count for each product on your license. For MATLAB®, the minimum Licensed User count is two, and you must maintain the MathWorks Software Maintenance Service (SMS) on at least two MATLAB Licensed Users.

• You receive DVDs and the right to use them on Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh computers.

• You receive one copy of the printed documentation if hardcopy is available; additional copies may be purchased as needed.

• You are the Primary Contact and system administrator for this license. You designate the Named Users for each product on the license. The number of Named Users is limited to the Licensed User counts for each product. You must have a process in place to accurately track, count, and administer a current Named User list for each product.

• You may replace the Named User for a Program, whether temporarily or not, not more than four (4) times per year.

• You install the software in a central location on your network and simply edit a file to maintain a list of authorized Named Users. Operating a Network Named User installation makes it easy for the system administrator to account for and monitor product installation usage.

• To increase the number of Named Users beyond the maximum Licensed User count for any product on your license, you must order additional Licensed User counts.

• SMS provides ongoing technical support and automatic software updates. The first year of SMS is included at no charge. In subsequent years, you have the option to purchase an annual subscription to SMS.

• Software updates and SMS renewal bills are sent to you as the Primary Contact and administrator of the license.

•  The license is restricted to a single country of operation.

3) Concurrent License Option

This option offers the highest asset mobility and provides economies of scale, but its value depends on the usage patterns of your organization. Select this license to serve casual users in a network-only configuration. This option may also be useful if you need to impose a strict limit on software use for accounting or license-management purposes.

How it works

• You specify the products that you require and the number of concurrent use keys for each product on your license.

• You receive DVDs and the right to use them on Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh computers.

• You receive one copy of the printed documentation if hardcopy is available; additional copies may be purchased as needed.

• You install the software in a central location on your network, and any person in your organization with network access may run it.

• If the number of license-key denials reaches a rate that is unacceptable to your user base, you may order additional concurrent use keys.

• MathWorks Software Maintenance Service (SMS) provides ongoing technical support and automatic software updates. The first year of SMS is included at no charge. In subsequent years, you have the option to purchase an annual subscription to SMS.

• Software updates and SMS renewal bills are sent to you as the Primary Contact and administrator of the license.

•  Use of a Network Concurrent License is restricted to a single country of operation.
